“Then They Came for Me” Discrimination Panel hosted by the Alliance

LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance – Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Real Estate

One thing is for certain, there is no holding back the LGBTQ Real Estate Alliance. We don’t even have a logo yet, but we are already making HUGE inroads on the advocacy side.

We held our first “official” national event today as our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Committee Chair Octavius Smiley-Humphries convened an extraordinary panel to discuss discrimination in real estate. Titled, “Then They Came for Me,” the discussion centered around real, modern-day acts of racism, bigotry and discrimination that agents and real estate professionals from around the nation faced in their own backyards in 2020.

Prior to returning to real estate and becoming the lead of the Smiley Group at Flex Realty, Octavius spent several years on the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion team at the Disney Television Group. He is incredibly well-versed on a variety of topics related to discrimination.

Special thanks to the following for joining Octavius on the panel:

Kimberly Davis – Realtor – Keller Williams
Tim Hur – Realtor – Point Honors & Associates, Realtors.
Zaylore Stout – Author/Esq. – gay50states.com /Stout & Associates
Jorge Soto – VP, Policy & Advocacy – National Fair Housing Alliance
Vanessa Montanez – VP, Sales and Bus. Dev. Manager – U.S. Bank & NAMMBA President
Feroza Syed – Trans activist and Associate Broker at Sotheby’s International Realty
