Speaker: Elana Redfield – Federal Policy Director at the Williams Institute

Data collection is essential for good policymaking. Information collected through federal surveys helps the government enforce federal laws, allocate resources and ensure access to rights, protections and services. Yet, most federal surveys do not ask questions about sexual orientation or gender identity and efforts to add these questions stalled during the Trump administration. The Williams Institute, a public policy research institute based at the UCLA School of Law, scored a win for LGBTQ people when it got the U.S. Census Bureau to include LGBTQ people in the Household Pulse Survey in 2021. Join Federal Policy Director Elana Redfield in this session as we explore why this data collection is important to the community and what the Pulse data tell us about LGBTQ households, their economics, homeownership and more.

Light refreshments served during this time to keep attendees sharp.
